Data journalism expert Nicolas Kayser-Bril to deliver news:rewired keynote

Nicolas Kayser-Bril, chief executive and co-founder of Journalism++ – which brings web technologies into journalistic workflows – will deliver the keynote speech at news:rewired – digital stories on Thursday 6 December.

Self-taught programmer and data-driven journalist Kayser-Bril was previously in charge of data journalism at OWNI, where he led several experiments in crowdsourced data gathering.

He will join the line up of more than 30 digital journalism experts also speaking at the one-day digital journalism conference, which aims to equip delegates with knowledge of the latest techniques and tools for producing top-notch digital journalism, as well as offering insight into some of the innovative projects evolving within today’s newsrooms, and outside of them.

Kayser-Bril will talk about how and why news outlets should place data at the heart of the newsroom, and draw on his experiences at Owni and Journalism++ to discuss the development of data journalism and opportunities for news outlets now and in the future.

His keynote will be followed by a series of sessions and workshops covering topics such as mobile reporting, visual storytelling, user experience, searching social media and liveblogging.

Speakers include representatives of outlets such as the Wall Street Journal, Guardian US, The Irish Times, Google+, Financial Times, Channel 4 News, Future Publishing and Trinity Mirror.

There are still a handful of tickets available for news:rewired, but be quick as the event usually sells out. Tickets for the one-day conference can be purchased at this link for just £130 (+VAT). Lunch and refreshments will also be provided, as well as networking drinks afterwards.

There is also a news:rewired PLUS ticket option for just £310 (+VAT), which includes both a day’s intensive training on the Wednesday (5 December) and the day-long conference on the Thursday (6 December). Delegates can choose one of two options for the day of intensive training: Introduction to Data Journalism, run by Paul Bradshaw or Online Media Law, run by David Banks.

You can buy either of these tickets at this link. If you select a news:rewired PLUS ticket we will contact you to confirm which training course you would like to attend on the Wednesday and provide further details. Space on these training courses will be limited and running of them will be subject to demand.
