Announcing the full agenda for news:rewired

We are now able to announce the full agenda for the next news:rewired, which will take place on 19 April in London.

The digital journalism conference offers host of practical sessions and workshops for digital journalists.

Some speakers are still to be confirmed, but we are now able to provide details of all the session and workshop topics. Delegates get a choice of which workshops they attend. You can see the plan for the day and workshop and session choices by looking at the agenda.

Google tools for journalists

Two speakers from Google will lead a masterclass in Google tools for journalists. Stephen Rosenthal, communications and public affairs manager, UK, will provide tips, and Madhav Chinnappa, head of strategic partnerships, Google News & Magazines EMEA, will talk about opportunities for publishers on Google Currents.

Mobile journalism

Glen Mulcahy, head of production and technology at Irish broadcaster RTE will lead a workshop in mobile journalism, offering tips on shooting and editing video footage, photos and audio.

Web-native video editing

The mobile journalism masterclass will be followed by a workshop led by Mark Boas, a web app developer and 2012 Knight-Mozilla Open News fellow, who will train those choosing to attend the session in how to use Mozilla’s Popcorn Maker to create web-native video.

Growing a social media community

Growing social media communities will be led by Luke Lewis, who by then will be editor of BuzzFeed UK and who is currently editor of NME.COM.

Start-up journalism

There is an opportunity to attend a Q&A with three entrepreneurs who have launched journalism start-ups. Adam Westbrook, video journalist, lecturer and founder of Inside the Story; Stuart Goulden, founder and managing director of One&Other; and James Fyrne, deputy editor, SoGlos, will share their experiences of making digital journalism pay.

There are also sessions on:

Curation: The journalist as manager. Speakers for this panel session include Cory Haik, executive producer for digital news, The Washington Post; Matt McAlister, lead on the Guardian’s n0tice platform; and Michael De Monte, founder and chief executive, ScribbleLive.

Data-inspired stories. Speakers include Claire Miller, data journalist, Media Wales.

Building participatory communities. Speakers include a representative of CNN iReport.

Online standards and ethics. Speakers include Tom Standage, digital editor, the Economist.

Tickets for news:rewired are still available but usually sell out ahead of the event – so don’t delay! Here are the two ticketing options:

  • news:rewired: Delegates can purchase a ticket for the one-day conference for just £130 +VAT. Tickets include lunch, refreshments and after event drinks on the day.
  • news:rewired PLUS: These tickets offer a place at the conference, as well as a day of intensive training the day before the event. The three options on offer for the day of training prior to the event are advanced online research with Colin Meek, data visualisations with Paul Bradshaw and Caroline Beavon, and online video journalism with Adam Westbrook. Space on these training courses is limited. news:rewired PLUS tickets are available for just £310 (+VAT).
