“Diversity is not about political correctness. It’s about quality journalism”

Lack of diversity in the newsroom, biased reporting and dipping trust in the media have all been hot topics for the past few months.

But how can we ‘unbias’ the news? This was the question that Tabea Grzeszyk, CEO and co-founder of the collaborative network for journalists Hostwriter, is trying to answer in a new book called Unbias the News: Why diversity matters for journalism.

In a Journalism.co.uk podcast, Grzeszyk spoke about what it takes to introduce diversity in the newsroom, what are the consequences of not including more voices in our reporting, and how collaboration can help us uncover stories we would otherwise have missed.

“Diversity is not about doing minorities a favour,” she said. “We need them to produce quality journalism.”
