In-depth news:rewired+ workshops to cover key digital journalism skills

On Thursday 20 February, we will be running the next instalment of our digital journalism conference, news:rewired, which will look at key tools, techniques and skills being harnessed by newsrooms in the UK and further afield, and some of the big challenges and opportunities facing online publishers today.

As well as the one-day conference, we are also offering an additional half-day of training, consisting of a series of three, three-hour workshops the following day (Friday 21 February).

The workshops will be held at the same venue as news:rewired, MSN UK’s offices in Cardinal Place, Victoria, London.

The three options are:

3. Searching social media and verification

The next news:rewired digital journalism event: Thursday 20 February

The next news:rewired digital journalism conference will take place on Thursday 20 February – offering another thought-provoking day of digital journalism innovation and inspiration, with industry case studies and practical tips for newsrooms.

The one-day event will return to MSN UK’s office in Victoria, London, and feature a mix of panel discussion, presentation-style sessions and shorter workshops focusing in on best practice application of specific skills or tools.

Tickets are available for £130 +VAT.

We are also running an extended version of news:rewired for the first time, with the option of also attending an additional half-day of digital journalism training on the following day, Friday 21 February.

With our ‘news:rewired plus’ tickets, you can not only access the news:rewired conference on Thursday 20 February, but also attend a three-hour, hands-on workshop on Friday 21 February, enabling you to go more in-depth into one of three subjects, and as part of a smaller group, led by an expert trainer in the field. news:rewired+ tickets are available for £220 +VAT.

At digital journalism conference news:rewired, held on Friday 20 September at MSN UK in London, Jay Lauf, publisher of one-year-old business news site Quartz, part of the Atlantic Media Company, delivered the keynote speech, including a look at how to produce content to appeal to a social audience.

Video: Breaking news panel at news:rewired

The breaking news panel at news:rewired featured Chris Hamilton, social media editor for BBC News, Paul Quigley, chief executive of NewsWhip Spike, Justine Mackinnon, co-founder of CrisisMappersUK and Jason Mills, editor, web at ITV News. The session was moderated by Laura Oliver, community manager at the Guardian.

The session included a look at breaking news strategy on social media as well as on a news outlet’s own digital platforms. It also showed delegates the potential use of mapping technology and crowdsourcing to find and tell stories as they happen, as well as a consideration of three different types of breaking news “perspectives”.
