Solutions to news avoidance

Trust in news is at an all-time low. A polarising news cycle is one of the reasons but there are many other factors: negative news topics, poor website experience, aggressive media commentators, social media platforms, the value of news and audiences’ understanding of how the industry operates and is regulated.

The “coronabump” of trust in 2021 reminded us that there is no substitute for quality journalism at a time of need. But newsrooms need longer-term strategies to foster industry-wide improvement.

In this session, you will hear from a panel of news professionals in the UK and US who are empowering communities to set the editorial agenda, shifting the power dynamic from ivory tower journalism to one that is responsive to the news and information needs of the people they serve.
