Truths, half-truths and damn lies: fact-checking in the age of AI

At least half of the world’s adults will head to more than 70 elections taking place in 2024 across the globe. In Europe, nine parliamentary elections will take place and at least four will have a profound impact on the old continent’s future. This is in addition to elections in India, the USA, Taiwan, South Africa, Russia, Ukraine and Iran.

2024 is the world’s biggest election year yet. This is also the first time that crucial elections are held since powerful generative AI tools became widely available.

There is no doubt that AI will play a big role in the elections outcome. So how can journalists effectively fact-check and let audiences know what is true and what is not?
