Sophia Smith Galer

Sophia is a multi-award-winning reporter, author and content creator based in London – making content for over 700,000 followers around the world. She is the co-host of the BBC World Service’s Where To Be A Woman Podcast and she pioneered how TikTok could be used in newsgathering and publishing.

Her video innovation and use of vertical video in investigations led to a British Journalism Award in Innovation of the Year in 2021 and made British Vogue’s list of the 25 Most Influential Women in The UK in 2022.

She began her career at the BBC where she reported on the complexities of contemporary faith across the BBC World Service, BBC Radio 4 and BBC World News as the network’s first visual journalist in faith and ethics. She then worked as a senior news reporter at VICE World News covering everything from gender violence and technology to the climate crisis and Europe’s Christian hard right. She is now freelance, working across podcasting, writing and consulting.
