Building communities on social media
Karyn Fleeting is the head of audience engagement for the Reach plc (formerly known as Trinity Mirror) regional titles, with a brief covering several hundred social accounts, pages and profiles.
Her role focuses on innovation, experimentation and hard data, to drive successful engagement strategies for newsrooms across the country. Before joining Reach plc, Karyn worked at Vogue, Telegraph Media Group and Mediacom.
At newsrewired, Karyn will be sharing some insights into her strategy for running Facebook groups, from engagement tactics to accelerating growth and taking lessons from the groups to the title’s publishing strategies.

Journalism beyond the news cycle
Andrew Green is the managing editor of Malnutrition Deeply, a single-topic news site that is part of the larger News Deeply community.
Green will be joining the newsrewired opening panel in the place of Megan Clement, managing editor, Women’s Advancement Deeply, who can no longer join us on the day.
Before his role at Malnutrition Deeply, Green worked as a freelance print and radio journalist from sub-Saharan Africa for more than six years, including a stint as Voice of America’s South Sudan bureau chief.
He still writes regularly on the systems that perpetuate inequality and the people looking to disrupt them, with a regular focus on health, human rights and politics. Andrew is a graduate of Northwestern University and the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to explore the development of the independent media in Zambia. https://fbskip.com/
Malnutrition Deeply publishes a mix of data-driven storytelling, investigations and expert commentary on making improved nutrition and zero hunger a reality.
The panel will explore the staying power of journalism beyond the news cycle, from engaging the audience around a story in the long-term to longform journalism techniques and assessing the impact of investigations.
