Emily Bell to give keynote speech at July’s news:rewired
With the next news:rewired digital journalism conference only four weeks away, we are proud to announce Emily Bell, director of the Tow Center for Digital Journalism at Columbia Journalism School, as the keynote speaker to open proceedings on the day.
Bell has been director of the Tow Center since 2010, which she joined after a 20-year career at the Guardian, including five years as editor-in-chief of the Guardian websites and four years as director of digital content.
She joins a growing list of speakers from leading news organisations due to speak at the event on Thursday 16 July at MSN HQ in London.
Other speakers include Jessica Yu, global head of visuals at The Wall Street Journal; Malachy Browne, managing editor at Reported.ly; Isaac Showman, managing director of Reuters TV; Alison Gow, digital innovation editor at Trinity Mirror Regionals; and many more.
Sessions and workshops for the day include building online communities; best practice in live and breaking news situations; mobile journalism; finding stories on social media; what journalists need to know about smartwatches and possible uses for virtual reality in news.
There are tickets still available, but only 40 remain for the conference itself and just 10 spaces are left on the news:rewired+ training courses to be held on Friday 17 July.
Trainees have the choice of learning about open source investigative tools and techniques with Eliot Higgins, the founder of Bellingcat and the Brown Moses blog about Syrian weaponry; or social media content strategies with expert trainer and ex-BBC journalist Sue Llewellyn.
Tickets for the main conference are £165 +VAT, including access to all the sessions and workshops, lunch, refreshments, and networking drinks.
A news:rewired+ ticket, including the conference and the full day of training, is £335 +VAT, representing a 17.5 per cent discount on the two days when purchased separately.
The full conference agenda will be announced later this week.
